What is a dram anyway?
A dram is a unit of measurement which is part of apothecaries' system of mass. The system of measurement was used
by the old apothecaries in English speaking Europe and colonial America. In terms of modern day, the system is obsolete
and all pharmaceutical companies measure out chemicals and ingredients in the metric system.
If you have read through a few recipe books on oils, incenses, and powders, you might have noticed that many of the recipes are measured out in drams.
So, here's a simple conversion chart:
1 dram = 1/8 fl oz = ½ tsp plus 1/8 tsp
2 drams = ¼ fl oz = ½ tsp
4 drams = ½ fl oz = 1 tbsp
6 drams = ¾ fl oz = 1 ½ tbsp
8 drams =1 fl oz = 2 tbsp
